Resident Evil Requiem (RE9): Everything We Know So Far Ahead of 2026 Release

Okay. So Capcom pulled a full mic drop at Summer Game Fest by dropping the reveal of Resident Evil Requiem, aka Resident Evil 9, and bruh... it’s darker, deeper, and scarier than ever.

Not gonna lie, this ain’t just another zombie-shootin' run. This is survival horror rebooted. Here's everything we know (and everything that made us lose our minds) about RE9 so far.

Grace Ashcroft Enters The Scene — But Who Is She?

So, the main protagonist is Grace Ashcroft, an FBI technical analyst (fancy, I know). She’s working on some disease file when her boss just walks in and casually drops the bomb: “You’re going to Wrenwood Hotel... where your mom died.”

Umm. What?

And guess what? Grace shares her last name with Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak. Fans already jumping the gun saying she’s Alyssa’s daughter — but Capcom is keeping it mysterious (typical). Still, it’s personal, it's creepy, and we’re here for it.

You Get BOTH First- and Third-Person Views

Yessir. The gameplay demo shows you can switch between first-person and third-person, and the transition is smooth af. The horror hits different in first-person, but for the classic fans, third-person brings that old-school RE vibe.

Also, there’s a wild scene where Grace is strapped to a freakin’ medical table, trying to escape some house-of-horrors situation, and then — boom — monster lady attack. She dies (maybe?), and then it cuts to third-person replay. Gave me RE2 Remake flashbacks.

Grace Ain’t Leon or Chris — She’s Just... You

Let’s get this straight. Grace is not a fighter. No punchin’ boulders. No John Wick moves.

Capcom made it clear: she doesn’t know her way around guns. So don’t expect run-and-gun action. You’ll be hiding, running, solving puzzles, and probably crying while doing it. It’s more psychological horror than ever, mixed with “pulse-pounding action” — Capcom’s words, not mine. So yeah, you’ll still get some Resident Evil-style chaos, just not from a trained special agent. It’s you vs. nightmare fuel.

The Wrenwood Hotel & What’s Left of Raccoon City

So the main murder mystery (slash horror house) is centered at the Wrenwood Hotel, the place where Grace’s mom was murdered. Very chill.

But here’s where it gets even better: we’re going back to the ruins of Raccoon City. Yeah, the OG zombie town. After the RE2 nuke, the city’s a bombed-out crater, and you even get glimpses of the wrecked RPD. It’s like nostalgia, trauma, and fan service — all rolled into one flaming nightmare.

Capcom’s Promising Next-Level Realism

They're flexing hard on the tech side. Capcom said this game will have “lifelike facial expressions, realistic skin textures, and high-fidelity sweat droplets.” Like... you’ll feel the fear sweating out of her pores. Creepy? Yep. Impressive? Also yep.

Where You’ll Play It

RE Requiem is current-gen exclusive, so if you’re still on PS4 or Xbox One... it’s upgrade time.

  • Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC

  • Release Date: February 2026

No PS4. No Xbox One. Pure next-gen power. It’s the full evolution we were waiting for.

TL;DR?

  • New protagonist: Grace Ashcroft. She’s us. Scared, smart, and tied to RE lore.

  • First & third-person: You pick your horror flavor.

  • No combat training: More fear, more running, more hiding.

  • Wrenwood Hotel + Raccoon City ruins: Chef’s kiss for RE fans.

  • Next-gen only: No excuses. Upgrade your console, bro.
